Computer Science & Computational Thinking

Incorporating computer science standards into every day instruction is vital for improving student outcomes.

Why Is It Important?

Incorporating computer science standards into every day instruction is vital for improving student outcomes.

Computer literacy is in high demand. It not only enables graduates to create with programming languages and manage systems in their field, but also fosters vital skills such as logical problem-solving and resilience in the face of challenges.

Computer science should not be a stand-alone subject area, it should be incorporated into every subject area in order to maximize the relevance of the learning.

How We Implement Project Based Learning?

Teaching project-based learning does not have to be complicated and does not have to be exhaustive, it just has to be thoughtful and logical.
WhyMaker believes there are 6 features that make a great project-based learning experience for studes. We work with teachers to design and plan each of these 6 features for an actionable project with their students.

It is within the realm of possibility to create aculture change through embed project-based learning in ytour school, and WhyMaker can help make you lead the shift.

We help educators find success with PBL by shifting their mindsets from teacher to learning engineer.

How We Apply It

There are many fantastic school-appropriate programs for learning computer science, and we use these programs to practice computer science principles.

The level of complexity of can be fully modified based on the skill level of each educator.

Teachers will practice doing computer science through hands-on activities and challenges.

We will guide educators to develop a scope and sequence of their computer science course and encourage integrations in all subject areas. Teachers will receive tips and tricks to improve their teaching practices of computer science.

Take a look at our blog on how students can benefit from block coding when teaching computer science.

We help implement solutions for incorporating computer science into math, science, social studies, English and other subject areas.

In doing so, we work with teachers to increase their level of comfortability in all the latest computer science programs and tools.

Our professional learning program equips teachers with the skills to effectively integrate computational thinking in the classroom.

From defining vocabulary to applying it across subjects, participants gain hands-on experience in practicing the four key mindsets of computational thinking, enhancing their teaching and supporting student engagement.

Among our vast experience is successfully supporting computational thinking for 800 students at an all-girls school.
